Hello again, Madison! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Madison Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Madison Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Madison long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy and colder. High: 34 Low: 27.

Here are the top three stories today in Madison:

  1. Late Tuesday night, the Madison City Council signed off on an operating plan for a proposed combined library/city services/park pavilion in Reindahl Park. This approval came despite several council members raising concerns about Madison's current financial situation. The $16.1 million building, known as the "Imagination Center," would function as both a new library branch and a space for city organizations to deliver services on the Far East Side. (Madison.com)
  2. Also on the agenda for the evening, the Madison City Council awarded $700,000 to eight local nonprofits serving undocumented immigrants, primarily in the Latino community. The proposal was approved over a competing one that would have broadened the populations served by the grant money. Said Vice President Arvina Martin, "We thought that the biggest impact we could make with this way-too-small amount of money was what we proposed." (Madison.com)
  3. Next week is Women in Construction Week, and multiple agencies across the City of Madison will be celebrating! Each day between Mar. 6 and Mar. 12, an agency will showcase a woman staff member and her work with social media posts, an article, and a video. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the opportunities and careers women can have in the construction industry. (WMSN Fox 47 Madison)
