"This presentation will inform work the county will do later this year," said Supervisor Melissa Ratcliff (District 36) who Chairs the Broadband Task Force.
The task force will also hear a brief presentation from a representative from the Public Service Commission on mapping as it is related to broadband access.
The task force was created by 2020 RES 415 and focuses on how to provide broadband access to all of Dane County’s residents, particularly those who live in rural areas where broadband access may be lacking or non-existent. The task force meets monthly to explore solutions to inadequate broadband service. This includes collecting data on under-served and vulnerable populations and partnering with stakeholders to identify where broadband is and isn’t available.
"The role of the task force is to try to bring people together to creatively come up with solutions. As we continued to hear presentations in our meetings, we learn more and more of the complexities of this issue" said Supervisor Kate McGinnity (District 37).
The next task force meeting will be September 2 at 9 am, and a representative from the Public Service Commission is expected to give a presentation on grants.
Members of the public can register to speak/attend the virtual meeting by following the instructions at the top of the agenda.
