Rise and shine, Madison! Let's get this Thursday started. Here's everything you need to know around Madison today.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and bitterly cold. High: 9 Low: -6.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Madison:

  1. A shipment of nearly 100,000 KN95 masks purchased by Dane County last week arrived on Wednesday. County Executive Joe Parisi said the masks will be distributed throughout the county in the coming days to fight against the recent omicron surge. The Department of Emergency Management and Human Services is working with Public Health Madison & Dane County and other organizations to distribute the face coverings, which they say will be given out in a similar way to how the county distributed masks at the start of the pandemic.(Channel3000.com - WISC-TV3)
  2. The Madison Ballet has been awarded a grant by the Madison Community Foundation in order to create more opportunities for choreographers of color. The $15,000 grant will serve as the first step in the ballet's attempt to build diversity in what has long been a systemically white institution. With the grant, Madison Ballet will build on previous successes from 2021's Lift Every Voice film series, which provides local choreographers of color the opportunity to work with artists in other media. 3. The second of two "chronic porch pirates" suspected of stealing packages from homes during the holidays has been arrested. The Madison Police Department announced Wednesday that Terry Campbell had been taken into custody on multiple counts including misdemeanor theft, felony theft, and felony bail jumping. Madison residents who have had a package stolen can report it to the police online. (WMTV - NBC15)
