Here are the top stories today in Madison:
- The Madison Police Department has received a federal grant award that will help it implement a "wrap-around" approach to preventing crimes committed by teenagers. The $125,000 grant will help provide resources directly into the homes of the city's most familiar teenagers committing violence in the community. The department aims to stop the cycle of violence by providing resources directly to the younger siblings of those who have committed crimes so those kids don't follow the criminal path. - The organization running the Lakeshore Nature Preserve held its first public meeting for its master plan on Nov. 30 at the Memorial Union. The preserve refers to 300 acres of University of Wisconsin property, running from the lakeshore path to the Eagle Heights woods. In addition to holding two more public meetings to solicit input, the Lakeshore Nature Preserve is offering feedback through a survey as well as an online map that the public can annotate. - Madison Reading Project celebrated a generous achievement Tuesday: donating 250,000 books to underserved children in the community. (WMTV - NBC15)
