Here are the top stories in Madison today:
- Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes leads the Democrats in fundraising for the U.S. Senate race — raising $1.1 million from donors. State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry have also posted their fundraising totals over $1 million, though both candidates have donated or loaned large sums to their own campaigns. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson has yet to announce his reelection but has already raised nearly $1 million. (WPR)
- The University of Wisconsin-Madison now has a center to support Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. Erika Rosales, who works at UW-Madison and is a DACA recipient, teamed up with Erin Barbato at the UW Law School to start Center for DREAMers, where DACA beneficiaries can receive support, social services, educational counseling and more. - Madison Metropolitan School District saw a nearly 450 student drop from enrollment in the 2020 to 2021 school year. About 60 percent of those students transferred to another district while roughly another 10 percent have in a private or homeschool setting. (The Cap Times)
