Week 7 is here and it is Latin night. The Latin dances are passionate, romantic, energetic and designed to show rhythm in the body.
First up is Jacoby Jones and he was dancing the Salsa. I would say this had a lot of sizzle but not much steak. What I mean by that is a little more content and basic Salsa moves. Jacobys feet have been mentioned numerous times in the past and his lack of articulation made this appearance of this dance very heavy. The number had good performance and entertainment.

Ingo was up next and danced Rumba with Kym. This was a sensual performance in the upper half of the body but the body could have been used more to tell the story of the dance and show the musicality. He did have some good lines but the transitions needs to be improved.

Dancing the Samba was Kellie and Derek who were still on a high after getting a "ten from Len" last week. Well they just keep getting better, this had very good technique, good body rhythm and personality. This was difficult choreography that was executed tremendously. Kellie is emerging as one of the celebrities to beat.

Hoping to stay in the competition is Andy Dick who was tasked this week with performing the Rumba. My first impression tonight was the fun and entertainment was good but it left me wondering where the dancing was. There was no hip action or correct footwork and in fairness the choreography he had resulted in him spending a lot of time posing and standing while Sharna is doing some kind of trick. In an event where most of the other contestants are rapidly developing their technical skills he has not improved at anywhere near the same pace.

Doing backflips after her recent good scores was gymnast Aly Raisman with Mark. Tonight they danced the Salsa and it was so much fun and the outfits, music and choreography went so well together. Not sure why she was crawling around on the floor but the rest of the routine was very good and Aly looked very comfortable out there.

Bachelor Sean danced Rumba with Peta and this was actually very sensual. I would like to see him a little stronger in his movement and being more manly as Peta looks stronger and faster then him. His arm movement wasn't always finished and when you 'flap' your hands you lose impact and intensity.

Getting ready for a bullfight while performing the Paso Doble is Zendaya. This girl used all her acting skills to get into character for this unique dance. Zendaya has very good lines and captured the intensity and passion required. There were a few little wobbles but this had a good quality and had a higher level of difficulty in the choreography than some of the other contestants.

Securing immunity from the 'dance offs' were Kellie and Derek so they were safe for another week.
Gaining extra points from the additional dances were Ali, Zendaya and Ingo which should help them survive elimination.
I am often asked for places to go out Ballroom Dancing. Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Wisconsin has 9 locations which consistently hold Newcomers Practice Parties in addition to being involved in fundraising events just last week we demonstrated at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's Big Bad Voodoo Daddy event held at the Potawatomi Casino.
We have a Regional Competition called Milwaukee Classic held at the Marriott Hotel in Waukesha May 17th & 18th.
