'Dash for Dylan' Steps Off Saturday

You can still register online before Friday, or pay a slightly higher fee by registering in-person on Saturday.

Dylan Smith certainly inspired a community, and students at Menomonee Falls High School are ensuring his legacy continues after his death.Β

The MFHS StudentΒ Council has organized a memorial run in his namesake, the Dash for Dylan,Β to raise funds for the Catch-A-Dream Foundation.Β The foundation offers hunting and fishingΒ excursions for children with life-threatening illnesses. The dash is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Menomonee Falls High School.Β

You will need to register before the race if you wish to participate. You can sign up online, and registration closes on Friday.

The Dash for Dylan will feature the option of aΒ 5K run or a 3K walk.Β Β The registration fees are $25 and $30 respectively for all runners who sign up this week.Β

You can also pay the higher fee to register the day of the event from 7-8:30 a.m. If you can't join the run,Β you can still donate to the cause online.Β

Smith passed away in October 2012Β at the age of 13Β after battling muscular dystrophy.Β However, his courage and positive outlook inspired students, teachers and the Falls community. In 2012, North Middle SchoolΒ students sold T-shirtsΒ and theΒ Student Council hosted a benefitΒ to raise funds for a new off-road-capable wheelchair.Β
