Members of Hamilton High School Junior Optimist Club are collecting school supplies, hygiene products and toys Nov. 1-15 to be shipped to children in South America and Africa.

Junior Optimist Brooke Stanley, a junior, is spearheading Hamilton’s involvement in Operation Christmas Child which provides children with shoe boxes filled with the donated gifts. It is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization.

Junior Optimist members will pack individual shoe boxes with a variety of donated items to be given to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease.

Community members are welcome to bring donations from the list of recommended items and place them in a collection box in the Hamilton High School front lobby.

The Junior Optimist Club is associated with the adult Optimist Club of Sussex, Lisbon, Lannon and Butler. Hamilton special education teacher Mary O’Neil is advisor to the club.
