2nd Annual Moody Park Safe Summer Kick-Off this Friday, June 9th at 4 PM

Moody Park community event for the family featuring live musical performances and more!

MILWAUKEE, WI

The 2nd Annual Safe Summer Kick-Off celebration is this Friday, June 9th, starting at 4:00 PM in Moody Park (2200 W. Burleigh). The Summer Kick-Off is organized by COA Youth & Family Centers and many community partners and brings the community together to celebrate the start of a full summer of arts, sports, youth and family programming in Moody Park.

Activities at the event include a speaker and a presentation by Safe & Sound and the Office of Violence Prevention on themes of anti-violence and safety, a community talent showcase, performances by Milwaukee musical artists (Cincere and Cigarette Break), free refreshments, free food, a community basketball tournament, a kickball competition, giveaways, line-dancing, face painting, live screen printing of t-shirts by Urban Underground, and much more.

“Last year’s Safe Summer Kick-Off was a big success that set the stage for the active, engaged Amani community to make a positive summer a reality in the 53206 zip code. This year is going to be even better thanks to engaged residents, our many partnerships, and the continued positivity in the neighborhood. People are really excited to be out in Moody Park!” said the event organizer, COA’s Family Resource Director Sasha Fernandez.

Throughout the summer, COA will offer a variety of programming in Moody Park including a free daily summer meal program, and recreational and cultural programming for children and families in partnership with the Dominican Center for Women, Hunger Task Force, the Amani United Neighborhood Association, Milwaukee Recreation, PeppNation, Cream Skills Basketball, Milwaukee Simba Soccer S.C., Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and other local organizations.
