3 to Face Charges in 128th Air Refueling Wing Security Breach

MILWAUKEE, WI -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office says they have three people in custody related to a Sunday incident that resulted in the 128th Air Refueling Wing at Mitchell International Airport being put in lockdown Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, authorities reported that at about 3:17 p.m. Sunday, the driver of a vehicle crashed through the security gate at the Wisconsin Air National Guard based at Mitchell International Airport. A security guard fired one shot following the crash. Nobody was injured as a result of the shot, according to officials.

Sheriff's officials say that military base security personnel pursued the vehicle after it breached the security gate, and managed to stop the vehicle on the grounds.

Sheriff’s deputies have three people in custody: a 14-year-old and two 17-year-olds. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office says that Lucas Zynel and Symmion Phillips, both 17, will be charged as adults. The 14-year-old is considered a juvenile and his identity will not be released by authorities.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's office, the three boys were involved in stealing a vehicle in Milwaukee, and then another in St. Francis.

The Sheriff's office is recommending multiple charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office for Phillips, Zynel and the 14-year-old. Those include second-degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer, driving a vehicle without owner's consent, and criminal damage to property.

All three potentially face additional charges once the investigation is complete, officials said.
