MILWAUKEE, WI — The community is mourning the loss of nine-year-old Miyanna D. Jelks after she was shot and killed in an accident inside of her house over the weekend, authorities are reporting.
According to Milwaukee police, their preliminary investigation revealed her brother accidentally shot her. Her brother has been taken to the Milwaukee County Children’s Court Center. Jelks’ parents, a 29-year-old Milwaukee woman and a 32-year-old Milwaukee man, were arrested on multiple charges. Milwaukee police are presenting this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days for review.
"Oh my. So children playing with guns? That's not good," said Lachelle Domineck, to FOX 6 over the weekend. "Parents -- keep these guns away from the children. I'm keeping my babies next to me -- very close. I cried all night and was so glad it was not my daughter."
