Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Milwaukee County official explains why some tornado sirens failed during severe storms (cbs58.com) — Milwaukee County officials say an equipment failure kept some outdoor warning sirens from sounding during Tuesday night's storms, but they've identified and fixed the specific problem. About half the county's sirens, including those serving Milwaukee, are already on a new system, with full replacement expected by early 2027. Residents are urged to use phones, weather radios, and apps as backup alerts.
2. Two teens charged as adults in 414 Day Murder in Milwaukee (wisn.com) — Two teenagers are now charged as adults with felony murder in the April 14 killing of David Krause, who was shot during an alleged robbery attempt in Milwaukee on locally celebrated "414 Day." Prosecutors say the teens were part of a group that picked Krause up, discussed robbing him, and then chased him before the fatal struggle. Krause's family, seeking justice for months, plans to attend an upcoming juvenile court hearing for a third teen.
3. Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office hosts third annual National Night Out at Veterans Park (cbs58.com) — Families packed Veterans Park on Milwaukee's lakefront Thursday night for the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office's third annual National Night Out, featuring games, raffles, and a visit from recovering K-9 Ryker. The free event focused on building trust between deputies and residents, especially kids, while highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen neighborhood safety and community relationships across Milwaukee County.
4. Cultural displays and booths take shape for Mexican Fiesta (jsonline.com) — Mexican Fiesta 2026 is transforming Milwaukee's Henry Maier Festival Park this weekend, with vendors, artisans, and volunteers racing to finish colorful cultural displays before gates open today. From hand-crocheted shade canopies to mojigangas and genealogy exhibits, the three-day lakefront celebration is taking shape and ready to welcome crowds. Expect plenty of Mexican art, food, and music along Milwaukee's shoreline.
5. K-9 Ryker regaining mobility weeks after Milwaukee County crash (wisn.com) — A Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy and his K-9 partner Ryker are steadily recovering after a crash last month on I-94 near Drexel Road. Deputy Samuel Mindel has been cleared to return to full duty, while Ryker, who suffered spinal injuries and temporary paralysis, is slowly regaining mobility and could be back on the job in about six months. Their progress was shared at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
