1. Landlords often run a background check on you. New online tool helps you background check them. (milwaukeenns.org) — Milwaukee renters can now research landlords just as landlords research them, thanks to a free site that links city addresses to ownership networks, code violations and eviction filings. The MKEPropertyOwnership.com tool, built by a Marquette researcher and a local developer, updates nightly with City of Milwaukee parcel data and helps users see how landlords' LLCs and properties connect across neighborhoods.
2. Key County Committee Approves Courthouse Project (urbanmilwaukee.com) — Milwaukee County is moving ahead with a nearly $900 million plan to replace its aging Safety Building courthouse, a project that would drive property tax increases starting in 2028. A key county committee has endorsed borrowing up to $857 million, with total costs reaching about $1.5 billion including interest. Supervisors must now decide whether to approve the project amid a looming budget gap and potential transit cuts.
3. Residents worry about traffic and personal safety, while the city's Department of Public Works reports at least 10 recent thefts and says repairs are made as crews are available.
4. Beloved dogs Millie and Sadie at Hilton Milwaukee are retiring (tmj4.com) — Two of Milwaukee's most beloved hotel greeters, Millie and Sadie, are retiring from their unofficial roles at the Hilton Milwaukee as they and their owner, concierge Rusty Dahler, move to Ohio in about two weeks. Staff and guests say the dogs' daily presence has brightened countless stays, and supporters are now helping Rusty build a safe new yard for them.
5. Milwaukee police chase ends after squad crashes into SUV, 1 injured (wisn.com) — A Milwaukee police chase for an allegedly reckless driver ended Wednesday when a squad car collided with an unrelated SUV near Sherman Boulevard and Custer Avenue, injuring a 23-year-old passenger. The crash stopped the pursuit, no officers were hurt, and the suspect's vehicle escaped, leaving Milwaukee police still searching for the driver.
