📰 News we're reading

1. Milwaukee neighbors raise safety concerns about boarded-up warehouse after nearby building collapse (tmj4.com) — Residents in Milwaukee's Harbor View neighborhood are pressing the city about a boarded-up Wisconsin Cold Storage warehouse, just a block from a recent partial warehouse collapse. They worry multiple vacant buildings pose safety risks and want consistent standards, while city inspectors say the structure passed its last fire check but will face more reviews this year.

2. Animal entrails spill on I-43/94 in Milwaukee, cleanup causes backups (fox6now.com) — If you were stuck on I-43/94 near Oklahoma Avenue Friday afternoon, that backup came from a tanker spilling cattle entrails across the northbound lanes in Milwaukee. Deputies say the driver braked hard to avoid another vehicle, closing a lane for hours while crews cleaned the mess, with traffic fully restored shortly before 9 p.m.

3. 8-year-old boy returns from hospital after being hit by car in Milwaukee (wisn.com) — Neighbors near 21st and Burleigh in Milwaukee rallied at Moody Park to welcome 8-year-old Za'Marion Hines home less than a day after he was hit by a car while biking. Nearly 100 people turned out to show support as he recovers from his injuries, highlighting both community solidarity and ongoing concerns about neighborhood traffic safety.

4. Inside a Milwaukee foundry building vital American infrastructure (tmj4.com) — Badger Alloys, a longtime Milwaukee foundry, is quietly producing critical metal parts that keep utilities, ships, and factories running worldwide, including power for Wisconsin homes. The company is also looking to hire several skilled workers as its experienced workforce nears retirement, offering hands-on careers that leaders say bring pride and stability to local families.
