MILWAUKEE, WI — Data and analytics website Niche has released its 2026 Crime and Safety grades for the Milwaukee metro, ranking communities from safest to least safe.
The grades are based on FBI crime data and CDC health statistics, combined with resident survey responses.
Niche's safest suburbs list only includes communities that earned a B minus or better, so Milwaukee's own citywide grade is shown separately below for comparison.

According to Niche, the crime grade is based on more than just police reports. About 38 percent of the score comes from local survey responses. The rest is drawn from federal sources, including data on assault, robbery, burglary, drug related deaths, excessive drinking, and firearm related fatalities.
