2. Starting October 1, eligible city residents—especially in priority ZIP codes and neighborhoods—can apply online for randomized selection, helping cover essentials from rent and diapers to car repairs during pregnancy and early parenthood.
3. 16-year-old dies at hospital after shooting on Milwaukee's south side (tmj4.com) — A 16-year-old was fatally shot Saturday afternoon on South Layton Boulevard on Milwaukee's south side and later died at the hospital, according to police. Investigators have made no arrests and are asking anyone with information to contact Milwaukee police or Crime Stoppers with anonymous tips.
4. Statue unveiled in Milwaukee's Halyard Park honors community developer Beechie Brooks (wisn.com) — A new life-size statue in Milwaukee's Halyard Park now honors community developer Beechie Brooks, the visionary who built 42 homes there in the 1970s and shaped the neighborhood. Family members and Mayor Cavalier Johnson joined residents to celebrate his legacy, calling the statue a lasting reminder of Black homeownership and determination in this "jewel" of a community.
5. Milwaukee man urges neighbors to check storm drains after rainy weekend (tmj4.com) — With a flood watch in effect for Milwaukee, a north-side church leader is urging neighbors to clear debris from storm drains to prevent flooding like his congregation suffered last year. The City of Milwaukee also promotes "adopting" a drain to keep water, trash, and pollutants from backing up into homes and local waterways.
