Burglar Calls Himself 'Feminist' as He Restrains Woman in UW-Milwaukee Burglary Incident

MILWAUKEE -- A 20-year-old Richland Center man faces more than 10 years in prison after police say he entered a female's room and restrained her on the UW-Milwaukee campus in early October.

During the incident, police said the man, identified as Anthony D. Vigil, 20, called himself "a feminist" and would be "nicer" than his friends who were on their way.

A University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee police officer was dispatched to Cambridge Commons, 2323 N. Cambridge Ave. on a report of a sexual assault complaint.

The officer made contact with a female who was reportedly visibly upset and crying.

The female stated to the officer that an unknown man, later identified as Vigil entered her unlocked room without permission when an incident took place.

According to Vigil's criminal complaint, Vigil entered the female's room, ordered her off the bed and told her that her friends were coming and they would not be "as nice as him as he is a feminist."

According to the criminal complaint, Vigil threw some of the female's belongings around in the room before placing her in a bear hug and stating that she was "staying here."

According to the complaint, Vigil attempted to kiss the female, who managed to evade Vigil by twisting away from him while she was restrained. The female managed to send a group message to friends asking for help, telling them a man had broken into her room and she needed help.

According to the complaint, the female's friends arrived and rescued her.

Police made contact with Vigil a short time later and he was taken into custody.

Vigil has been charged with false imprisonment and burglary. If convicted, Vigil could face up to 10-and-a-half years behind bars or up to $35,000 in fines, or both.

Vigil is currently out on a $5,000 signature bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 20.
