Christian Yelich Out For Season; Brewers Playoff Hopes Take Hit
The Milwaukee Brewers said reigning MVP Christian Yelich is out for the season with an injury.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee Brewers playoff hopes were dealt a serious blow Tuesday night after the team announced that reigning MVP Christian Yelich will miss the rest of the season with a fractured right kneecap.

Yelich took a swing at an inside pitch in the first inning of the Brewers game against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Yelich fouled the ball off his right knee, and fell to the ground in agony. He would limp back to the dugout in agony, and was replaced in the game by rookie Trent Grisham.

Yelich was leading the Brewers in all three major batting categories, with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 97 runs batted in. He was leading the majors in slugging percentage and OPS.

The Brewers finished Tuesday by beating the Marlins 4-3 for their fifth straight victory. They trail the Chicago Cubs by one-and-a-half games for the final wild card playoff spot in the National League.
