County Supervisor Calls for Resignation of Sheriff David Clarke

Moore Omokunde says four deaths in county jail in six months is reason for sheriff to quit.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Four deaths in the county jail in six months is a fact that's prompted a Milwaukee County supervisor to call for Sheriff David Clarke's resignation, reports FOX6.

"Something is terribly wrong at the Milwaukee County Jail, and Sheriff David Clarke needs to resign before more people die," Supervisor Supreme Moore Omokunde said in a statement.

Since April 3, three inmates and a newborn baby have died at the jail.

The April death of Terrill Thomas, who was being held after opening fire inside Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, was ruled a homicide in September. In August, Kristina Fiebrink was found unresponsive in her cell. And an inmate died at the end of October, according to WISN.

Omokunde said he and the Milwaukee County Board have repeatedly asked for more information into the investigations of these deaths but have received no answers.

"He's more interested in creating a public persona for himself, traveling around the country," Omokunde said.
When asked for a response, the sheriff said, "Supervisor who? That sounds like some character in a science fiction comic book, and he's upset that I helped Donald J. Trump get elected POTUS."

Omokunde insists this is not about politics.

"I want to stay away from personalities as much as possible. This is about doing one's job, and I'm asking Sheriff Clarke to do his job," he said.

The County Board is considering an independent investigation into the deaths at the jail.
