Free Comic Book Day: Stores Participating Around The Milwaukee Area

MILWAUKEE, WI — At least four comic book shops around the Milwaukee area are participating in Free Comic Book Day on Saturday.

The special day is meant to attract new readers to independent comic book stores, plus promote comics in general. Stores in the Milwaukee area that are participating include The Turning Page, two Collector's Edge Comics locations, and Vortex Comics, according to freecomicbookday.com.

Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the national event, which started in 2002 just a day after the first "Spider-Man" movie was released. The event is held each year on the first Saturday of May.

This year's event takes place the same weekend that Marvel is releasing its latest superhero film, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."

Across the country, over 2,000 stores are intent on participating in the event for 2022.

As the name implies, stores will give away comic books to shoppers on Saturday. Around 50 different comic books will be available at certain shops, free of charge. Click here for a complete catalog.

The comics are categorized into “gold” and “silver” categories. “Gold” comics include “Doctor Who,” and “Stranger Things Resident Alien,” while “Avengers X-Men” and “The Guardian of Fukushima” are among the “silver” comics.

Individual stores may limit how many free comics each person may pick from each category. Each store may also have additional giveaways for the special occasion. Check with your location for details.
