Girl, 3, Shot By Brother, 18, In Kenosha Home: Police

Police said the brother, who was taken into custody, was likely handling the gun when it fired.

KENOSHA, WI — A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized Friday after police said her 18-year-old brother shot her.

Kenosha police said the shooting happened just before 11 a.m. Friday at a home in the 5100 block of 29th Avenue. According to a news release, the girl suffered a severe gunshot wound to her lower extremities.

Police said the girl's brother was likely handling the gun when it fired. It's unknown whether the shooting was intentional or if the gun discharged by accident, authorities said.

The brother, whom authorities did not identify, was taken into custody and held on a probation violation, police said.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Children’s Wisconsin Hospital. She is expected to survive, police said.
