Girl, 3, Shot On Fourth Of July As Gunfire Plagues City: Report

A 3-year-old girl was sitting on her couch when she was struck by a stray bullet, police say. Authorities say it was among several shootings

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Independence Day holiday in Milwaukee was a serious one for many people in 2018, as several gunfire incidents plagued the city, including a three-year-old girl who was struck by a stray bullet, and a 45-year-old man who was shot and killed.

According to police, three-year-old Symphony Smith suffered non-life-threatening injuries after someone fired multiple gunshots into their house near the 4800 block of Fairmount Drive at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a FOX 6 report, Symphony's dad said she was sitting on a couch when several bullets went through the house, with one of the bullets hitting her in the leg.

She was treated at a local hospital and later released.

45-Year-Old Man Killed

On Thursday, July 5, at just before 2 a.m., Milwaukee Police responded to a shooting in the 1700 block of S. 2nd St. A 45-year-old man suffered a fatal gunshot wound at the location. Police say the circumstances behind this incident are still under investigation, but it is being treated as a homicide.

Two Shot, Injured

At 3:40 a.m. on the 4000 block of West Florist Ave., police say that a 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and were driven to a local hospital for treatment.

Police are reporting that they are seeking suspects in this double shooting.

21-Year-Old Shot, Injured

Milwaukee Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside of a business in the 1800 block of E. North Avenue on Wednesday, July 4.

Police say it appeared that an argument ensued between two different groups when a suspect pulled a gun. The victim, a 21-year-old man, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital. The detectives and officers were continuing the investigation and they do have a named suspect.

Shooting Victim Dropped Off At Hospital

Officers are also investigating a shooting that occurred at about 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. The victim, a 35-year-old man, was dropped off at a local hospital with serious gunshot wounds. The location and circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated, and the man's condition was not available at the time of this report.
