‘Give it forward’ for the holidays!
Make the holidays happier for children and families in our community. Here are few holiday gift and supply drives taking place this season.
Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features both one-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities in our community. Here are a few ways to help.
Spread the word among your friends, co-workers, place of worship or other networks and collect or purchase items for people served by these nonprofits. Contact the organization for specific details.
- Holiday Giving Tree - Purchase gifts for people in need in our community by Nov. 30; ideal for schools, churches, businesses and other community groups. Contact givingtree@npcmilwaukee.org or 414-299-3737.
- Holiday Toy and Food Drives - Donate food baskets for a holiday meal or collect toys for newborn to 10 years old children; toys needed by Dec. 11. Contact Capuchin Community Services at ccsvol@thecapuchins.org or 414-933-1300.
- Winter Coat Drive - Collect winter coats for women and children of all ages served by Meta House, an agency providing substance abuse treatment. Contact ljacobson@metahouse.org or 414-977-5823.
- Holiday Gifts for the Homeless - Knit hats and scarves or purchase gloves or socks for children and adults living in homeless shelters; need by Dec. 20. Contact Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee at kroysterice@gmail.com or 414-426-4473.
- Men’s Clothing and Winter Wear for Homeless - Donate jeans, winter coats, boots, athletic shoes, pajamas, slippers or backpacks for men in homeless shelter; need by Dec. 23. Contact emilyfirlinger@guesthouseofmilwaukee.org or 414-316-2012.
- Annual Soap and Suds Drive - Donate shampoo, conditioner and soap for children and adults with disabilities; drive runs until Dec. 31. Contact Life Navigators at amanda@lifenavigators.org or 414-774-6255.
