GoFundMe Page Set Up To Help Teen Fighting Rare Brain Tumor

MILWAUKEE, WI —After teenager Rozalynn Mapes was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor late last year, family members set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the 18-year-old's treatment.

According to reports on Fox6now.com, Mapes was diagnosed in December with diffuse intrinsic pontine Glioma, or DIPG, an aggressive tumor found in the brain stem area for which there is no cure.

Rozalynn's mother Angelina told Fox6now.com her daughter is set to undergo 12 to 15 months of radiation treatment. There also is a clinical trial at the University of Michigan.

"I think we have a chance, I mean I don't feel like this is it," Angelina told Fox6now.com. "I believe that there is more that they can do."

In early January, family members set up a GoFundMe page to help Rozalynn get the care she needs and allow Angelina to take off work to be by her daughter's side. Through Tuesday morning, the page had attracted 57 donors and raised $3,765 of it's stated $50,000 goal.

This is the second health challenge Mapes has faced in her life. She was born with Turner syndrome, a female chromosome disorder.

"(Rozalynn) has struggled and fought. She has overcome so much in her life," Angelina told the TV station. "You gotta keep pushing, you gotta keep fighting, you can't let it control you. That's all I gotta say. You got to fight. Don't give up, don't give up."
