Golf Season in Milwaukee Starts Today!

From Milwaukee County Parks: It’s a true sign of spring—temperatures are above 60 degrees (for one day at least), and all 15 Milwaukee County Golf Courses are now open for the season.

Today, April 12, at 4 p.m. at Oakwood Park Golf Course, County Executive Chris Abele, Interim Parks Director Guy Smith, and local golfers will officially start the 2018 golf season with the first swing of spring. In 2017 over 240,000 rounds of golf were played on Milwaukee County Golf Courses, and the revenue generated from the courses, which all goes back into the park system, has helped to fund several upgrades to area courses. At Oakwood Park Golf Course this year, golfers will enjoy new cart paths on all 18 holes and a remodeled clubhouse dining area with new flooring, new furniture, and new TVs.

Upgrades are also underway at Brown Deer Park Golf Course. A new roof was installed on the historic 1929 clubhouse, and a new dining area is set to open later this year too, just in time for the return of the LPGA Symetra Tour’s PHC Classic, which will hold its 4th tournament at Brown Deer Park, Aug. 10–12.

Additional upgrades this year include a new online tee-time service, and a new website will be launching soon at www.mke.golf. Golfers can also get up to 50% off green fees and earn loyalty points by joining the Players Discount Program. The program is open to all Wisconsin residents and costs only $20 for one year. Programs for junior golfers have also been expanded this year. Young golfers can join tournaments organized by Wisconsin PGA, learn golf with the First Tee of Wisconsin or join the Milwaukee PGA Junior League. A free Junior Golf Showcase will be held this Sunday, April 15, from noon–2 p.m. at Currie Park Golf Course, to share more information about junior golf programs, to give junior golfers a chance to take part in putting and chipping contests, and to enter raffles for a chance to win free membership and equipment.
