Inmate Dies in Milwaukee County House of Corrections

A 52-year-old inmate at the Milwaukee County House of Correction has died. Find out how the emergency was handled:

MILWAUKEE, WI — A 52-year-old inmate at the Milwaukee County House of Correction has died - the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the death.

According to authorities, the inmate died Sunday, April 30 in the hospital.

According to a report from FOX 6, House of Correction Superintendent Michael Hafemann wrote to County Supervisors, stating:

Early yesterday evening staff were alerted that an inmate housed in an HOC general population dormitory was unconscious, unresponsive, but he had a faint pulse. EMS procedures were initiated and on duty HOC medical staff immediately responded to the dormitory to provide care. The inmate subsequently stopped breathing and ceased to have a pulse. HOC and Franklin Fire Department EMS personnel were able to revive the inmate and he was transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the inmate passed away at the hospital emergency room.

As required by law, ab outside law enforcement agency is looking into the case as investigators from the Franklin, Wis. Police Department were called in to determine what happened.
