Justice Department Deploying 500 Election Monitors in 28 States Tuesday
Milwaukee is on the list, but there's a twist: The federal government lost its mandate to place observers inside polling stations in 2013.

MILWAUKEE -- More than 500 Justice Department election monitors will be active in 67 jurisdictions in 28 states on Election Day to enforce of federal voting rights laws.
One of those locations will be Milwaukee, Wis., but there's a twist.
According to a FOX 6 report, although the federal workers will be in charge of upholding federal election laws, Tuesday’s election is the first presidential election in more than 50 years without federal power to mandate observers inside polling stations.

That’s a result of the 2013 Supreme Court ruling, known as the Shelby decision, which struck down key parts of the Voting Rights Act. The federal government lost its mandate to place observers inside polling stations, FOX 6 is reporting.
The monitors being deployed this year can’t enter polling places without the authorization from local election officials.
