Milwaukee residents can expect a bit of snow to start the week. Prepare for cold rain on Thursday.

MILWAUKEE — Most Milwaukee metro area residents can expect at least a dusting of snow Monday, with up to an inch possible.

"Light snow and flurries linger today, but drier conditions with some sun are expected by Tuesday," the National Weather Service said.

"A brief warm up is expected for the middle of the week before precipitation moves in for the second half of the week."

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for several counties, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha and Racine.

"Light to moderate banded snow will continue to pivot southeast over southeastern Wisconsin this morning," the NWS said in the alert. "Light accumulations on untreated roads will be possible, leading to slick spots."

The next round of precipitation will come in the form of rain on Wednesday.

Here's the specific NWS forecast from the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport:

Monday: Snow, mainly before 10am, then a chance of flurries after 2pm. High near 31. North wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Monday Night: A chance of flurries before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20. East wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the evening.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. South wind 10 to 15 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of rain after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday: Rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 46. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Rain. Low around 35. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: Rain likely, possibly mixed with snow, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
