Mama Angie's Italian Deli To Close After 30 Years

A labor of love that hasn't changed much in nearly 30 years, family says it's the right time for Mama Angie's to close her doors.

OAK CREEK, WI — After nearly 30 years in business, an Oak Creek fixture will soon be closing its doors.

Karen Falzarano, and her then husband, Rick, founded Mama Angie's Italian Deli in October of 1987. In February 1988, Rick passed away. A few years later she married Anthony D'Amico and they have kept the deli going ever since.

On Thursday, Feb. 15, Mama Angie's Italian Deli will be closing its doors for good.

"It was a dream of ours from the start. Our family had nearly always been in the restaurant business, and this was our chance to create something not found in the Greater Milwaukee Area – an East Coast-style deli with homemade specials daily," Karen and Anthony said online this week. "From that very first day, we have poured our heart and soul into this restaurant. Every recipe, every dish came from the heart."

The menu hasn't changed much in nearly 30 years, and they've always been located in the same spot in the strip mall located at 6508 S. 27th Street. Specials are always fresh, and homemade and folks have given the popular deli rave reviews throughout the years.

"Back in our heyday, we would hit the festival circuit, with booths at State Fair, Miller Maritime Days, Racine Harbor Fest, Bastille Days and of course Festa Italiana," Karen's daughter Dana Carpenter said to Oak Creek Patch. "We are known for our Eggplant Parmesan and Mozzarella Marinara. Always fresh, never ever frozen. It really is rare for family businesses to stay around in this new landscape, and I'm beyond proud of my parents for keeping this going."

But like many things, all good things must come to an end. Mama Angie's will be on "winter hours" 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until finally closing for good on Feb. 15.
