Man Freezes To Death After Fleeing Accident Scene: Police

Police say the man who caused the accident ran from the crash scene and hid in some bushes. He was found frozen to death the next day.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A Milwaukee man who caused a four-vehicle crash who ran from the crash scene to hide in the bushes ended up freezing to death, according to Milwaukee Police.

According to police, Mark Henderson, 34, drove through a red light at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 at the intersection of 99th St. and Good Hope Rd., resulting in a four-vehicle crash.

Police say Henderson ran from the scene and hid in the bushes. According to a WISN 12 report, his body was found by his girlfriend the next day. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner reported that Henderson was found between a shed and a wooden fence.

Temperatures that day climbed to only 13 degrees and fell to two below zero as wind chills caused temperatures to plummet dangerous lows. Weather officials said outdoor exposure of as little as 30 minutes could result in frostbite and other consequences.

Mark Henderson, 34, pled no contest to a felony charge of hit and run-causing death in 2012. He was originally sentenced to five years behind bars, but participated in an earned-release program and had the remainder of his sentence converted to extended supervision in September 2015.
