Meet Dawn Marie Sass, Candidate For Wisconsin Treasurer

Former treasurer Dawn Marie Sass is looking to jump back into the role, starting with the Tues. Aug. 14 primary election.

WISCONSIN — After voters in Wisconsin voted to keep the State Treasurer's position in an April referendum, several candidates are now running to occupy the office.

The position of State Treasurer has been stripped of its official powers over the years by state Republican leaders, leaving it with one remaining function: to appear on the three-member Board of Commissioners of Public Lands.

Several of the candidates for this office are seeking to expand the role of the State Treasurer's position again. Dawn Marie Sass, a former Wisconsin State Treasurer, is looking at jumping back into the race to restore the Treasurer's powers. Sass, who is listed as a Democrat, will be on the ballot on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Name: Dawn Marie Sass

Hometown: Milwaukee, WI currently living in Belleville, WI
Occupation: Accounting Assistant 3

Please characterize where you fall on the political spectrum (liberal/moderate/conservative, etc.):
Moderate

Please describe your relevant political experience:

I served as Wisconsin State Treasurer from
January 3, 2007 until January 3,2011

Please talk about the top 1 or 2 leading issues in your campaign and how you plan to approach
them if elected:

The number one issue is bringing back the duties of the State Treasurer’s office. The office has been decimated during the past 6 years with all duties being given to other agencies. I will fight to get back all of the duties – unclaimed property, 529 College Savings program, LGIP, and cash management.

The second issue is to bring respect back to the office. I will go to work everyday and make it my mission to gain back the respect that a constitutional office/officer should have. I will continue the outreach that I started during my previous term – visiting all 72 counties every year and the contests for school children to win a 529 college savings account.
