'Midnight Piper' Set To Play Tribute Friday At WI Police Departments

The Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums band plans to honor fallen law enforcement at police departments across WI.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Lone bagpipers from the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums band are expected to appear at multiple Milwaukee-area police departments on Friday at 11:55 p.m. to play "Amazing Grace" in honor of fallen officers.

The Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums started the practice in 2020, and it typically coincides with National Police Week. The Lone Pipers are set to play at stations across the state on Friday, according to a Facebook post from the Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard.

According to its website, the band was started to perform Highland bagpipes and drums for memorial ceremonies, funerals, and other events. Its original members were active and retired members of the Milwaukee Police and Fire Departments, and its since expanded to a larger community in southeast Wisconsin.

The band's mission is "To honor fire, police and military personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the American people."
