Milwaukee Brewers Trade For Joakim Soria Of Chicago White Sox

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Major League Baseball trading deadline is July 31, however the Milwaukee Brewers have already made their first trade leading up to the deadline, by acquiring righthanded relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the Chicago White Sox. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand first reported the trade via Twitter.

To get Soria, the Brewers are trading starting pitching prospect Kodi Medeiros and minor leaguer Wilber Perez.

Soria, 34, is an 11-year MLB veteran who has pitched for the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox over his career.

He was the White Sox closer this year, notching a 2.56 earned run average over 38 innings of relief work over 40 games.

According to MLBTraderumors.com " Soria recently saw an end to a string of 18-straight scoreless appearances. He’s earning $9MM this year, with a $1MM buyout on a 10MM mutual option for 2019. With a 2.75 ERA and 11.3 K/9 vs. 2.3 BB/9 on the year — buttressed by a career-high 14.7% swinging-strike rate — Soria looks to be quite a worthwhile target."
