The Milwaukee Children's Choir Hosts Annual Gala
Charity event raises funds for enhanced music instruction and performance experiences for local children

The Milwaukee Children’s Choir, Wisconsin’s premier, audition-based youth ensemble, is pleased to announce its upcoming Gala fundraiser that will take place on May 4, 2017 at the Wisconsin Club (900 W. Wisconsin Ave.). Doors will open at 5:30 with cocktails and passed appetizers, followed by a formal sit-down dinner and concert at 7 p.m.
“Our mission is to provide exceptional choral music education and performance experiences for children living in the Milwaukee area, aged 5-18, that will help foster creativity, personal expression and social growth,” said Darcie Warren, executive director at The Milwaukee Children’s Choir. “Now more than ever, Milwaukee needs to rally behind its fantastic performing arts industry in an effort to sustain high quality cultural experiences, as well as support organizations that train the next generation of talent to succeed. We want to give all children in the Milwaukee area access to choral and music education that will enhance and develop their skills.”
The Milwaukee Children’s Choir serves children during the school day at five Milwaukee Public Schools, providing music education through its grant-funded “Harmony Program” and through a funding partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools. The choir also supports area music educators through clinics and workshops, such as the Milwaukee Choral Conference, an intensive workshop for choral conductors and current and aspiring choral music educators. “The goal of these clinics is to preserve, promote and expand choral arts education for instructors, but also for future generations of kids who want to further explore music,” said Marco Melendez, conductor of The Milwaukee Children’s Choir.

Outside of the schools, the choir maintains six levels of choral education for children from 1st-12th grades, offering rehearsal locations and special concerts and performances throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
“Through each of these mediums, Milwaukee Children's Choir affects the lives of over 1,000 kids each week throughout the academic year,” said Warren. “The money raised during our annual Gala will help us sustain and grow these programs.”
