According to a criminal complaint, Taylor initially told police the shot must have come from outside and entered through an open third-floor window. Investigators later determined that account was false.
Taylor later told detectives a gun had been under a pillow while the child was jumping on a mattress, according to the report. Prosecutors said Taylor also admitted putting the gun back because he was a felon.
