Milwaukee Landmark Restaurant Closing: Trocadero Says Goodbye After 16 Years

Trocadero was a fixture on Milwaukee's east side for 16 years, but its closing to make way for something brand new.

MILWAUKEE -- After being a fixture on Milwaukee's Lower East Side for about 16 years, Trocadero, 1758 N. Water St., is closing its doors for good in mid-January.

According to a report from the Milwaukee Business Journal, although the restaurant - named after a particularly cool part of Paris that's easily visible from the Eiffel Tower - will be closing, its owners will announce a new restaurant concept in February.

"With all of the improvements and changes happening across the city and particularly the East Side, we thought this was the perfect time to jump on board and be a part of that change," said Drew Deuster, managing partner of Wild Planet Hospitality Group in an ONMilwaukee report this week.

Trocadero became known as a popular gastropub, and a fantastic brunch place replete with beverage options such as mimosas, bloody marys and a spicy Mexican hot chocolate - served with sugar cubes and a piece of bitter chocolate on the side.

The high-ceiling triangular-shaped building afforded its customers a flood of natural light during the day, riverside ambiance at night and a heated patio that kept your feet warm during all seasons.

Milwaukee's near north side, especially in the Tannery Row area, has seen significant growth over the last several years, with a sizable influx of market-rate apartments, new retail, boutique and dining options springing up.

The new urbanization of Milwaukee's east side will include - not too far away - a multi-million-dollar Milwaukee Bucks arena slated to open in 2018. In addition, an entire sports and entertainment district will surround the arena.
