Milwaukee Woman Accuses County Jail Of Causing Unborn Child's Death

Jennifer Jawson, of Milwaukee, who was in jail while pregnant, accused jail staff of causing her unborn child's death.

MILWAUKEE, WI -- A Milwaukee woman has accused the Milwaukee County Jail staff of causing her unborn child's death. Jennifer Jawson, 35, allegedly took improper medication given to her by medical staff at the jail.

According to Jawson's attorney, Jason Jankowski, Jawson, who was being jailed on a probation violation, was deemed healthy at a hospital before being taken to jail. According to a Journal Sentinel article, Jankowski said her medical staff found a fetal heartbeat in the first six days of her jail time, but none on the seventh.

Jawson's attorney said she was denied Methadone, a drug used to curb heroin addiction, and that she was given Tylenol 3, which contains codeine. Women considering using codeine should "use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential riskpotential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus," according to drugs.com.
