Milwaukee's Poorest District to Star in Hollywood Film
'53206 Milwaukee,' much of it shot here, to be released in 2017. Local talent fills the cast.

(Originally appeared on FOX6) MILWAUKEE,, WI — Milwaukee's 53206 zip code, the poorest section of the city, is known for violent crime and drug abuse — which has become fodder for a Hollywood movie, FOX 6 reports. The movie, titled "53206 Milwaukee," was filmed locally and highlights the crime and tragedy of the neighborhood, along with the ambitions of a character to make it out, said producer Kim Zulkowski.
Local resident Imani Brown won the lead role playing Robbie. "A 17-year-old girl named Robbie. Her and her friends have dreams and aspirations of making it out of 53206 and becoming something great," Brown told FOX6. "I'm Robbie. I'm my character all the way. Completely," Brown said.
Her character has experienced the death of loved ones to gun violence, just as she has in real life, Brown said. The film crew had a close call one night as it set up to shoot scenes at 9th and Burleigh when bullets flew.
