MPD Report: Fatal Shooting On W. Wright Street Thursday

Milwaukee Police officers were driving on West Wright St. when they heard a barrage of gunfire, on Thursday evening.

On Thursday, October 10, 2019, at approximately 5:30 P.M., Milwaukee Police officers were driving in the 3700 block of West Wright St., when they heard a barrage of gunfire. As the officers drove toward the gunshots, they observed multiple individuals in the 2500 block of North 38th St., including at least one suspect firing shots in the direction of two juveniles who were found by responding squads to have been injured by gunfire.

The officers acted quickly and engaged in a foot pursuit of a suspect who was still armed. As a result of the officers’ actions and incredible restraint in a dangerous situation, the 27-year-old Milwaukee man who fled on foot was taken into custody several blocks away, and a firearm was recovered nearby. A 26-year-old Milwaukee man, also believed to be a suspect in the shooting, was injured during this incident and will be taken into custody upon his release from the hospital. Criminal charges will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.

As a result of this tragic incident, a 37-year-old Milwaukee man died on the scene, a 14-year-old girl was critically injured, and a 10-year-old boy sustained a non-life threatening injury. The Milwaukee Police Department and Chief Alfonso Morales send prayers to the families of those who were impacted by this senseless act of violence. Chief Morales also thanks to the officers from District 3 who responded to this incident and for quickly apprehending the suspects.
