MPS, UW-Milwaukee, Marquette, Alverno, MIAD Closed Wednesday

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Bitterly-cold weather this week has forced the closure of numerous schools and services in Milwaukee this week, including the Milwaukee Public School District.

Here is a message posted Tuesday from Milwaukee Public School District officials:

Milwaukee Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to inclement weather. All schools and district offices are closed as well as all district after school, recreation and athletic programs and events. Thank you and be safe.

All Milwaukee Public Libraries will also be closed Wednesday.

College Campuses To Close

Here is a message posted by UW-Milwaukee officials Tuesday afternoon:

The UW-Milwaukee campus will be closed (TO THE PUBLIC) at 5 p.m. today through 12 p.m. Thursday. Only essential service employees ARE REQUIRED to report to work.

Marquette University officials are also closing their campus down until Thursday:

Marquette University will close at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 29, through noon on Thursday, Jan. 31, due to severe weather conditions in the greater Milwaukee area. All classes are cancelled during that time period. Normal classes and university operations will resume on Thursday, Jan. 31, at noon. Limited campus services will remain open with essential personnel, although hours may be reduced, including: Alumni Memorial Union, Facilities Planning and Management, Information Technology Services, Marquette University Police Department, Rec Plex/Rec Center, Marquette Dining Services

Alverno College administration is also closing down their campus due to the cold weather:

Due to frigid temperatures, Alverno is canceling this evening's classes and will not be open tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 30. The college will close at 5 p.m. today, Jan. 29. All classes and activities are canceled, and the Early Learning Center will be closed. Stay warm!

Likewise, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design is closing early Tuesday and will re-open Thursday for classes:

Due to dangerous weather conditions, MIAD will close at 6 p.m. today, January 29. MIAD will also be closed all day tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30. All classes are cancelled, staff should not report to work, and the main building will be closed. School will reopen at noon on Thursday, January 31, with classes resuming at 12:30 p.m.
