PopCon Milwaukee Is Coming

In a few weeks, I will be venturing across the northern border and heading to the PopCon Milwaukee. Sponsored by Mears Auctions, the PopCon Milwaukee will be held November 4th and 5th, 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Convention Center in Milwaukee, WI. PopCon Milwaukee will be a 2 day pop culture extravaganza full of celebrities of all sorts, dealers, events and more.

For me, the celebrities are always the big draw and there are plenty of celebrities I want to meet at PopCon Milwaukee. From the sports world, baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins and baseball legend Pete Rose will be appearing. Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Hull will also be there. This is a rare chance to meet these three at a pop culture convention.

From the popular1960’s Batman television series, Burt Ward (Robin) and Lee Meriwether (Catwoman) will be there. Fifty years after that show ended, they are still fan favorites.

More classic superheroes will be represented by Danny Seagren, Sam Jones and Jackson Bostwick. Seagren portrayed Spider-Man on The Electric Company. Jones starred in the title role in the Flash Gordon movie from 1980. Bostwick starred as Captain Marvel in Shazam!, a 1970’s Saturday morning show. I am looking forward to meeting all three for the first time.

I always love meeting horror hosts. At PopCon Milwaukee, I will be seeing Dr. Destruction and Lilith Lovecraft. I never know what to expect, but I know it will be horrific fun with them!

Coming all the way from Hazard County, Georgia is Bo Duke. Actually, I am referring to the actor John Schneider and he really isn’t coming from Hazard County, although he co-starred on that popular television show from the 1980’s.

Actress Lydia Graber has played an Ewok in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, as well as other roles and appearances in music videos. She has also done voiceover work.

Among the talented artists appearing are Jeff Butler, Arvell Jones and Mike Grell. Individually, this trio has worked on many successful and legendary comics.

The fun doesn’t end there though. Other interesting events include a re-enactment of a soldier’s camp, a funeral hearse car show, side show performers, and many more.

There will be on-site autograph authentications (for a minimal charge). This is very handy, especially with the three sports legends signing.

Of course, there will also be vendors on hand, too. I’ll be perusing the tables for new and different Aquaman merchandise. I never leave a con without something from the Aquaman universe.

I am also looking forward to seeing the attendees. With this being so close to my home base of Chicago, I think this will be extra full of my friends. Several of my friends are making the trip and I am certain I will meet several more I didn’t know were going. I also look forward to making new friends. The beauty at these cons is that it is like one big family reunion.

In addition to the friend-attendees, I also look forward to the costumes some will wear. Cosplaying is big at comic cons. (Please, oh please, someone come as Aquaman!) I’m sure I will see plenty of fans as Harley Quinn, The Joker, Batman, Star Wars characters and other favorites. They are all pretty cool, but I especially like the oddball costumes, like Rowdy Roddy Piper, Fonzie (it is Milwaukee) or Progressive’s Flo. Either way, I am sure I will be entertained by the crowd.

I am really looking forward to having a lot of fun at PopCon Milwaukee. I don’t venture across the border enough and this is a great reason to visit Milwaukee.
