Fire Department Warns Against 'Extremely Combustible' Seeds

WISCONSIN -- It's June in Wisconsin, which means that eventually the cottonwood seeds will take flight - making way for snowy scenes of feathery white plumes.

One fire department is warning residents that cottonwood trees are expected to produce a "bumper crop" of the snowy white plumes this year.

The anticipation is so great that fire officials in the Twin Cities are warning residents not to set fire of the excess seeds on account of how easily they catch fire. Fire officials say fires of this type can easily escalate.

The built up cottonwood is "extremely combustible," officials noted. Residents are asked to be cautious with discarded cigarettes, recreational fires and any other ignition sources.
