The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a phone scam in which a caller pretends to be from the Sheriff's Office.

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a phone scam in which a caller pretends to be from the Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, scammers use the Sheriff's Office phone number to call Milwaukee citizens and tell them they have missed jury duty and have a warrant issued for their arrest.

The phone numbers mirror actual Sheriff's Office phone numbers, a concept called "spoofing," which happens a caller falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display.

The Sheriff's Office reminds residents that it will not call or email people to threaten arrest. If residents receive such calls, they are advised to hang up.
