Lightning Strike Prompted Emergency Landing: Report
Witnesses say a military KC-135 Stratotanker made an emergency landing in Milwaukee Wednesday afternoon.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A military aerial refueling plane landed at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee after officials said a midair lightning strike over Chicago forced the KC-135 Stratotanker to make an emergency landing at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.
Witnesses said they heard "multiple explosions" as the KC-135 Stratotanker came in for a landing.
According to a WISN 12 report, the plane made its emergency landing just before 3 p.m. According to a CBS 58 report, all takeoffs and landings were temporarily suspended after two of the tires blew on the KC-135 Stratotanker upon landing. As of just before 3:30 p.m., the plane was disabled on the runway.

By 4 p.m., officials said the plane was moved off the runway and normal arrivals and departures resumed.
