Fallen Tree Kills Racine Woman, Seriously Injures Horlick Teacher

Police say a Racine couple was driving in their vehicle when high winds toppled a tree, crushing the car they were traveling in.

RACINE COUNTY, WI -- Authorities in Caledonia say that a 52-year-old Racine woman is dead her 51-year-old husband was seriously injured after a tree fell on the vehicle the couple was driving on Saturday morning.

According to Caledonia police, William and Michelle Martin were driving west on Four Mile Road just after 10:30 a.m. near Nicholson Road when a tree fell on top of their moving vehicle. Michelle Martin worked for Danny's Meats and Catering, and her husband William is currently a math teacher at Horlick High School.

Caledonia police said that the Martins ended up being trapped inside their vehicle and needed to be extricated by emergency responders.

Authorities said that William Martin was behind the wheel when the accident happened. He was transported to Ascension All Saints Hospital with serious injuries and survived the accident. Authorities reported that Michelle Martin, who was a passenger in the moving vehicle, did not survive the accident, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said that high winds at the time of the accident were the reason the tree ended up falling on their vehicle.
