11 Horses Die In Racine County Barn Fire

Police reported that a responding officer worked until exhaustion along with property owners in an effort to rescue the trapped horses.

CALEDONIA, WI — A total of 11 horses are dead and two people suffered injuries on a report of a barn fire on Highway H in Franksville.

According to Caledonia Police, officers responded to a barn fire at Landlife Farms, 4747 Highway H, just north of Highway K in Franksville on Monday just after 6 p.m.

Police said that when officers arrived on the scene, the property owners were seen attempting to pull siding off the burning barn in an attempt to rescue the horses who were trapped inside.

The responding officer assisted in the effort until the heat became too extreme and all rescuers needed to be moved to a safe location.

Caledonia Fire responded to the scene and was assisted by Raymond, South Shore, Oak Creek, Franklin and Pleasant Praire departments in addition to the Racine Fire Bells assistance group.

After the fire was extinguished, police reported that eight horses were found dead inside the barn, two miniature horses were not located and one horse with severe burns had to be euthanized.

According to police, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, is not considered suspicious at this time.
