15-Year-Old Carjacker Fled At 100 MPH, Caught By K9: Sheriff

Authorities say that a 15-year-old carjacker dragged the car's owner, fled police at 100 mph, until he was eventually caught by a police dog

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy faces multiple charges after he staged a carjacking in Racine, dragged the car owner, fled police at 100 miles per hour and recklessly drove through Milwaukee county until he was caught by a police dog on Milwaukee's east side.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's office, on Tuesday, the Racine Police Department was investigating a carjacking where a 15-year-old boy dragged the owner with the car as he sped away. Sheriff's officials say that at about 1:20 p.m., Oak Creek police reported spotting the stolen vehicle, which was involved in a crash but drove away at recklessly high speeds, requiring that they terminate the pursuit. According to scanner reports, the suspect fled at speeds that reached 100 miles per hour.

According to the Milwaukee County sheriff's office, a deputy in an unmarked squad spotted the vehicle on the freeway at about 1:35 p.m. on northbound I-43 near Rosedale. He followed until additional squads were set up to back him up. The boy exited the freeway at McKinley Avenue, and a traffic stop was attempted, but the he failed to stop and continued to elude officers.

Authorities say the 15-year-old boy managed to evade officers on Lincoln Memorial Drive, Downer Avenue, Locust Street and crashed into a light pole at Lafayette and Summit. He then fled on foot and was apprehended by a pursuing deputy’s K-9 partner. During the pursuit, his vehicle sideswiped another car, but no injuries were reported.

Deputies are reporting that they detained the 15-year-old boy and will be charging him with Fleeing and Eluding, Operating Auto Without Owner’s Consent, and citing him for Operating Without a Valid License, and Reckless Driving/Endangering Safety.

The boy had two outstanding warrants – one for Vehicle Theft and another for Burglary. If convicted on the two felony charges, he faces up to seven years’ behind bars if he is convicted.

The Milwaukee Police Department is writing the crash that occurred on city streets. Racine and Oak Creek police departments will investigate the offenses that occurred in their jurisdictions.
