At the time, authorities confirmed that three victims had been shot. Beth said Sunday evening during a press conference outside the Dragaway that an African-American suspect walked up to three people, also African-American, at a food vendor stand and shot them at "point blank range." All three of the victims were residents of Aurora, Illinois, according to Beth. The type of weapon used in the incident is unknown, as is what might have precipitated the attack.
It was estimated that more than 5,000 spectators were at the event Sunday known as βLarryβs Fun Fest,β a car show and drag race that has in the past attracted people from Milwaukee, Chicago and other surrounding areas.
Highway KR was closed Sunday evening from Interstate 94 to the scene.
Sheriff's officials are asking the public that this area be avoided so the Kenosha Sheriffβs Department can continue their investigation.
The Kenosha mobile command unit responded to the scene just after 9 p.m. The unit is typically dispatched to major crime scenes.
Flight for Life and the State Patrol were called to the Great Lakes Dragaway immediately following the shooting.
