$500,000 Donation To UW-Parkside For Science Lab
The newly upgraded lab is expected to better help students prepare for careers in the sciences.

RACINE, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside integrated science lab is about to get a massive upgrade thanks to a $500,000 donation from SC Johnson. Not surprisingly, the newly renovated science center will be named the SC Johnson Integrated Science Lab.
The Racine Community Foundation partnered with SC Johnson to support the university's Integrated Science and Applied Learning Initiative. A press release from SC Johnson said the upgrade will help provide "opportunities for students, such as research fellowships, scientific career exploration and development activities."

“This high-quality lab space will enhance educational experiences for local students and provide students with a collaborative environment,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “We’re thrilled the new SC Johnson Integrated Science Lab will help support future science professionals who are better prepared for the workforce, and will assist with meeting future workforce demands of the region.”
The new science center will have up-to-date equipment and technology which is being used in the real world, helping students become familiar with what they'll be using. An expansion of the lab will provide space for independent research.

Deborah Ford, the Chancellor of UW-Parkside, said the upgraded lab will "expand and improve opportunities for student studying science to experience research, as well as engage in solving real-world industry problems and other field work... We’re grateful for SC Johnson and its investment in a quality education for our students."
The formal lab-opening ceremony will take place Thursday, Aug. 31 at 4:15 p.m. in Greenquist Hall. The new lab will be open for students to use in the fall 2017 semester.
