Police ruled that alcohol and speed were a factor in a Mount Pleasant car crash that injured two people.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — Police ruled that alcohol and speed were a factor in a Mount Pleasant car crash that injured two people.
According to Mount Pleasant Police, officers and South Shore Fire Department first responders arrived at the scene of a one-vehicle crash just before 11 p.m. Friday on the 1400 block of Oakes Road.
When rescue personnel arrived, they saw that a heavily-damaged car crashed into a tree. Two people were inside the vehicle and one was trapped. Police said that a female passenger in the front seat, identified as Mary F. Pagano, 34, Mount Pleasant, was trapped inside and was unresponsive.

Police said the vehicle needed to be cut apart, and Pagano was cut from her seatbelt so she could be treated at the scene. She was later transported to the Wheaton Ascension Emergency Room. She was in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon. The driver, Nicholas B. Putz, 35, Elm Grove, suffered a head laceration and was transported to the emergency room with minor injuries.
According to police, Putz had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him while he was at the scene. The Incident remains under Investigation by Mount Pleasant Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol, who was called into to reconstruct the accident scene.
